Wallabies outclassed by South Africa at Loftus-Versefeld

Updated at 10:46 am today

A Bryan Habana hat-trick has ended any hope of Australia grabbing a first win at the Springboks' strong-hold Loftus Versfeld ground in the Rugby Championship this morning.

The Springboks also claimed the first four-try bonus point win of the competition as they ran out 31-8 winners.

The Australians, who were looking to extend their winning streak over South Africa to six games, were never in the game.

They trailed 14-3 at half-time, which could have been greater but for the home side missing four penalty kicks while they had two tries disallowed by the television match official.

Wallabies five-eighth Kurtley Beale failed to spark their attack with his team smothered by hungry Springboks defence.

Their kicking game was again poor, while they missed too many tackles in a disappointing outing all around which will again turn up the pressure on coach Robbie Deans.

(AP) ? The pope's once-trusted butler went on trial Saturday for allegedly stealing papal documents and passing them off to a journalist in the worst security breach of the Vatican's recent history ? a case that embarrassed the Vatican and may shed some light on the discreet, internal workings of the papal household.

In its first hearing in the case, the three-judge tribunal threw out some evidence gathered during the investigation of butler Paolo Gabriele, who is charged with aggravated theft. It also decided to separate Gabriele's trial from that of his co-defendant, a computer expert charged with aiding and abetting the crime.

Gabriele is accused of taking the pope's correspondences, photocopying the documents and handing them off to Italian journalist Gianluigi Nuzzi, whose book "His Holiness: The secret papers of Pope Benedict XVI," was published to great fanfare in May.

Nuzzi has said his source, code-named "Maria" in the book, wanted to shed light on the secrets of the church that were damaging it. Taken as a whole, the documents seem aimed primarily at discrediting Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Vatican secretary of state and Benedict's longtime trusted deputy. Bertone, 77, a canon lawyer and soccer enthusiast, has frequently been criticized for perceived shortcomings in running the Vatican.

On Saturday, the court also announced that the pope's personal secretary, Monsignor Georg Gaenswein, had been called as a witness, testimony that is sure to attract attention given that Gaenswein rarely speaks in public much less about details of the intimate, papal family of which Gabriele formed part.

Other witnesses include one of the four consecrated women who take care of the pope's apartment, a monsignor in the Vatican secretary of state, the No. 2 Swiss Guard commander and the head of the Vatican police force.

Judge Giuseppe Dalla Torre set the next hearing for Tuesday, when Gabriele will be questioned. He said he thought the whole trial could be wrapped up in four more hearings.

Gabriele faces up to four years in prison if he is convicted. He has already confessed, saying he leaked the documents to shed light on what he called the "evil and corruption" in the church, and asked to be pardoned by the pope.

Gabriele, a 46-year-old father of three, appeared calm but tense during the 2 hour, 15 minute hearing, frequently crossing his hands or clasping them in his lap. He wore a light gray suit and tie.

He sat alone on a bench on one side of the intimate, austere courtroom following the proceedings impassively. During a break in the hearing, he chatted with his attorney, Cristiana Arru, and greeted journalists with a nod and a smile as he entered and exited.

Arru raised a series of objections at the start of the hearing, only some of which were accepted by the court. One concerned two jailhouse conversations Gabriele had with the head of the Vatican police force without his lawyers present. The judges declared the conversations were inadmissible. The content of the conversations isn't public.

Arru also sought access to the report of a commission of cardinals appointed by the pope to investigate the leaks alongside Vatican magistrates. The court denied the request.

Neither Gabriele's wife nor any of his three children attended the hearing. Space for the public was limited; eight of the 18 seats were taken up by the journalists who followed the proceedings and then briefed the rest of the Vatican press corps afterwards.

Security was relaxed, with the guards at the tribunal entrance mostly concerned that none of the press or public brought in any recording devices: They even checked pens to make sure they couldn't record, and sequestered cell phones into safe boxes. No television or still cameras were allowed, except for Vatican media which filmed the first moments at the start of the hearing.

Eight members of the Vatican gendarmerie who were called as witnesses were in the courtroom as well, but left during the break after the judges made clear they wouldn't be called to testify Saturday. Domenico Giani, the pope's personal bodyguard and the head of the Vatican police force, remained for the duration of the hearing.

Given the content of the leaks and the Vatican's penchant for secrecy, the fact that the trial was open to the public and media may have struck some as unusual. In fact, such trials in the Vatican's civil and penal tribunal are routinely public. They just don't happen very often or attract much attention. The Vatican's ecclesial courts on the other hand, which handle marriage annulments, clerical sex abuse cases and other matters of church law, remain firmly off-limits to outsiders.

In some ways, the willingness of the Vatican to proceed with the trial at all is an indication of its efforts to show new transparency in its inner workings. Benedict could have pardoned Gabriele as soon as he was arrested or charged, precluding any trial from getting off the ground. Instead he allowed the trial to go ahead, evidence of the "courage" the Vatican is showing to be more transparent, Vatican spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi has said.

He called such transparency unprecedented for the Vatican and likened it to the Holy See's recent decision to submit its financial institutions to outside scrutiny by the Council of Europe's Moneyval committee.

Slide1

Winter is approaching, time is short and comfort is yearned for, and that is why I have created this dish ? ?my mum used to make this for us all (not vegan though, I?m afraid).? All I remember was the joy of the potatoes melting in my mouth, and crunchy bread and raw onion served alongside this dish ? oh, a truly mouthwatering experience.? Here it is ? from my table to yours.? You can use sweet potatoes, if you prefer.? Serve with raw onion and hot bread !

Serves 4

INGREDIENTS

4 Tbsp (60 mL) olive oil, for frying

1 red medium sized onion, finely chopped

3 to 4 potatoes, peeled and cut

2 medium-sized carrots, cut

2 cloves garlic, chopped into slithers

2 tsp vegetable stock granules, or 1 vegetable stock cube dissolved in ? cup hot water

3 cups petit pois (baby peas) ? the frozen type

salt to taste

3 Tbsp tomato paste

2 cups (500 mL) water

a pinch of mint

a pinch of paprika

METHOD

  1. First heat your oil in an oven-proof saucepan (I used my cast iron Le Creuset), and fry your onion for a minute or so. Then add the rest of the veggies, and lower the heat ? stirring every minute or so.
  2. Now mix in the remaining ingredients, except for the water.? Cover, and allow to cook for 5 minutes, stirring every minute or so.
  3. At this point, add half the water, lower the temperature, and allow to cook for 30 minutes.
  4. Add the remaining water, and place in a hot oven for an hour, or until the potatoes are totally soft.
  5. Serve and Enjoy !

California Law Bans Landlords From Requiring Declawed ...

California Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law a bill that prevents landlords from requiring tenants to have their pets' claws removed or vocal cords silenced. Landlords cannot reject tenants who refuse the surgeries to declaw or "devoice," and can't advertise in a way that discourages people whose pets have claws or vocal cords.

The law, SB1229, also stipulates that any landlord caught advertising or establishing those rental policies will face civil fines of up to $1,000 for each pet. Of course, any landlord who doesn't want to risk having annoyingly loud or sharp-clawed animals in a rental is still allowed to enforce a no-pets policy.

In 2010, then-governor Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed a similar bill that he said went "too far in attempting to deal with inappropriate demands by landlords."

(For advice on how to live with a pet -- claws, voice and all -- see AOL Real Estate's guide to pet-friendly living.)

How annoying can a noisy pet be? While they wouldn't be affected by this law, it's probably not happy news for Craig Fontaine and Kathleen Melker of Warwick, R.I., who say their neighbors trained a cockatoo to repeatedly shout obscenities at them.

D-Day for al-Qaida in Somalia? - World News - MSNBC

By NBC News wire services

MOGADISHU, Somalia --?Troops launched an amphibious assault before dawn Friday on the al-Qaida militant group al-Shabab's last stronghold in Somalia.

Other African Union forces were traveling overland to link up with the joint Kenyan-Somali force in the port city of Kismayo.

The commander of the U.N-backed African Union troops, Lt. Gen. Andrew Gutti, said the aim was to "liberate the people of Kismayo to enable them to lead their lives in peace, stability and security."

Col. Cyrus Oguna, the Kenyan military's top spokesman, said the attack met minimal resistance, but al-Shabab denied that the city had fallen and said fighting was taking place.

Oguna told The Associated Press that al-Shabab, which formally merged with al-Qaida in February, had incurred "heavy losses" but that Kenyan forces have not yet had any injuries or deaths.

"We came from the beach side and we're moving towards the main city. Our surveillance aircraft are monitoring every event taking place on the ground," he told Reuters.

"For now, we're not everywhere. We've taken a large part of it without resistance, I don't see anything major happening," he said.

Born in the USA, but now among Somalia's Islamist terrorists

Residents in Kismayo, a city of about 193,000 people, contacted by The Associated Press said that Kenyan troops had taken control of the port, but not the whole city.

"Al-Shabab fighters are on the streets and heading toward the front line in speeding cars. Their radio is still on the air and reporting the war," resident Mohamed Haji told The Associated Press. Haji said that helicopters were hitting targets in the town in southeastern Somalia.

At an international one-day summit Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron said the world would "pay a price" if it fails to help Somalia overcome terrorism, piracy and starvation. ITV's Lee Comley reports.?

Another resident, Ismail Suglow, told Reuters that he could hear shelling from the ships and that the rebels were responding with anti-aircraft guns.

"We saw seven ships early in the morning and now their firing looks like lightning and thunder. Al-Shabab have gone towards the beach. The ships poured many AU troops on the beach," he added.

Expert: War on terror at 'critical' point as al-Qaida looks to regroup in Africa

On Thursday, residents said planes had dropped leaflets on Kismayo warning civilians to evacuate within 24 hours, Reuters reported.?More than 10,000 residents fled Kismayo in the last several weeks.

Resident Faduma Abdulle said Friday that she is now leaving too.

She said al-Shabab made an announcement on its radio station Friday to trick residents into moving toward the invading troops.

"They told residents through their radio to loot a Kenyan ship that washed up on the coast, but instead the residents who rushed there were attacked by helicopters," she said. "Some of them have died but I don't know how many. The situation is tense and many are fleeing. It's a dangerous situation."

A U.S. military spokesman, Lt. Cdr. Dave Hecht, said the U.S. Africa Command, known as AFRICOM, is closely monitoring the situation but that "we are not participating in Kenya's military activities in the region."

Militants: Taking city not 'a piece of cake'
Al-Shabab said it would not give up Kismayu easily.

"Going into Kismayo is not a piece of cake. We are still fighting them on the beach where they landed," Sheik Abdiasis Abu Musab, al-Shabab's spokesman for military operations, told Reuters on Friday. "For us, this is just the beginning, our troops are spread everywhere."

Oguna said the assault is part of a four-prong attack involving Kenyan forces currently in villages outside Kismayo.

The amphibious assault landed between 10:30 p.m. Thursday and 2 a.m. Friday local time (3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Thursday ET)?, he said. Some of the troops had night-vision goggles, he said.

Somali Olympic chief killed in Mogadishu suicide blast

African Union troops pushed al-Shabab out of Mogadishu in August 2011, ending four years of control of the capital by the fighters.

The Ugandan and Burundian troops that make up the bulk of the African Union force in Mogadishu have slowly been taking control of towns outside of Mogadishu.

The expanding control by AU troops sent al-Shabab fighters fleeing south toward Kismayo, north to other regions of Somalia and across the Gulf of Aden to Yemen, according to American and African Union officials.

Kenya police: Imminent attack by suicide bombers thwarted

Al-Shabab still holds sway across many small, poor villages of southern Somalia. The loss of Kismayo would be significant.

The militants taxed goods coming into its port. Al-Shabab lost its major source of financing last year when it was pushed out of Bakara market in Mogadishu, where it also charged taxes.

The march toward Kismayo by the Kenyan forces has been nearly a year in the making.

Masked 'goons' kill at least 17 in attacks on churches in Kenya

Kenyan troops entered Somalia last October after a string of kidnappings inside neighboring Kenya, including of Westerners in and around the beach resort town of Lamu, which is also seeing the construction of a new port and could one day be final point of a new oil pipeline from South Sudan.

Kenyan forces were bogged down by rain and poor roads for months but have making slow and steady progress toward Kismayo in recent weeks.

The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.

China seals Bo's fate ahead of November 8 leadership congress

BEIJING (Reuters) - China's ruling Communist Party accused disgraced politician Bo Xilai of abusing power, taking huge bribes and other crimes on Friday, sealing the fate of a controversial leader whose fall shook a leadership handover due at a congress from November 8.

The once high-flying Bo now faces a criminal investigation that stemmed from a murder scandal, and will almost certainly be jailed. With the Communist Party congress about six weeks away, further steps in the case could come before then, helping pave the way for a transition of power, experts said.

"Bo Xilai's actions created grave repercussions and did massive harm to the reputation of the party and state, producing an extremely malign effect at home and abroad," the official statement from a party leaders' meeting said, according to a report by the official Xinhua news agency.

Bo's wife Gu Kailai and his former police chief Wang Lijun have already been jailed over the scandal stemming from the murder of British businessman Neil Heywood in the southwestern municipality of Chongqing, where Bo was Communist Party chief.

The official statement carried by Xinhua said that in the murder scandal, Bo "abused his powers of office, committed serious errors and bears a major responsibility".

That charge appears to reflect accusations from Wang's trial that suggested Bo tried to stymie the murder investigation.

Reports that Bo, the "princeling" son of a revolutionary leader, could escape with a light punishment have now been dealt a fatal blow, and accusations of womanizing could further tarnish his reputation in the eyes of Chinese people.

But the few weeks left before the congress will probably not allow time for a trial, said He Weifang, a law professor at Peking University who has closely followed Bo's downfall.

"I think it's quite certain that he won't be able to escape punishment under the criminal law, but the timing makes it unlikely that will happen before the congress," said He.

"I'd guess that he'll get a jail sentence of 20 years or longer. The death penalty is unlikely, although the bribery charges could in theory allow it, if the amount is as huge as they say."

At the congress, Chinese President Hu Jintao will step down as party chief, almost certainly making way for Vice President Xi Jinping to emerge as top leader. Xi is then almost sure to be appointed state president at the annual parliament session, likely in March next year.

WARNING TO HEED EXAMPLE

Bo, 63, has been expelled from the party as well as the elite decision-making Politburo and Central Committee "in view of his errors and culpability in the Wang Lijun incident and the intentional homicide case involving Bogu Kailai", said the party announcement.

Bogu is his wife's official but rarely used surname.

Bo's "grave violations of party discipline" extended back to his time as an official in Dalian city and Liaoning province in northeast China, and as minister of commerce, said the statement from the Politburo.

"Party organizations at all levels must use the case of Bo Xilai's grave disciplinary violations as a negative example," it said.

Bo's son, Bo Guagua, who was a friend of the murdered Heywood, has remained largely silent throughout the fall of his parents. He appears to be still in the United States, after finishing graduate studies at Harvard University.

Since Bo Xilai was ousted in March, he has not been seen in public and has not been allowed to answer the accusations against him. At a news conference days before his removal, Bo rejected as "filth" and "nonsense" the then unspecified allegations against him and his family.

At the same time as announcing the slate of accusations against Bo, the party set the November 8 date for the congress that will unveil the country's new central leadership line-up. Eight is considered a lucky number in China.

The twin announcements will "significantly reduce perceived political and economic risks" and "help end policy paralysis," Ting Lu, China economist Bank of America/Merrill Lynch in Hong Kong said in an emailed research note.

"If anything, this should make markets and the general public somewhat assured that this is not really being delayed too far," Damien Ma, an analyst for the Eurasia Group who follows Chinese politics, said of the November 8 congress date.

LEFTIST SYMPATHISERS CRY FOUL

Bo, 63, was widely seen as pursuing a powerful spot in the new political line-up before his career unraveled after his former police chief, Wang Lijun, fled to a U.S. consulate for more than 24 hours in February and alleged that Bo's wife Gu had poisoned Heywood to death.

After his appointment as party chief of Chongqing in 2007, Bo, a former commerce minister, turned it into a showcase of revolution-inspired "red" culture and his policies for egalitarian, state-led growth. He also won national attention with a crackdown on organized crime.

His brash self-promotion irked some leaders. But his populist ways and crime clean-up were welcomed by many of Chongqing's 30 million residents, as well as others who hoped that Bo could take his leftist-shaded policies nationwide.

His likely trial could still stir that ideological contention. China's party-run courts rarely find in favor of defendants, especially in politically-sensitive cases.

After state television announced the charges against Bo, some leftist sympathizers insisted that he was the innocent victim of a political plot.

"I just still don't believe that Bo has so many problems with corruption," Han Deqiang, a leftist Beijing academic who has supported Bo, told Reuters. "We have to wait and see what else comes out. But I don't think we've been given the truth."

In March, Bo was sacked as Chongqing party boss, and in April he was suspended from the party's Politburo, a powerful decision-making council with two dozen active members.

The latest party statement also said Bo "had or maintained improper sexual relations with multiple women". It added that the investigation discovered clues of other, unspecified crimes.

"We'll have to wait and see what charges are accepted by the prosecutors in any indictment," said Li Zhuang, a Beijing lawyer who was jailed by Bo after raising allegations that Chongqing's anti-crime gang policies involved torture and other unchecked abuses. "The charges could change."

Billionaire Soros gives $1M to pro-Obama super PAC

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Liberal billionaire George Soros is giving $1 million to a "super" political action committee backing President Barack Obama.

Soros also gave another $500,000 to two congressional super PACs, House Majority PAC and Majority PAC.

Soros' contribution to the super PAC Priorities USA Action comes as the group raised a record $10 million last month. It has launched television ads highly critical of Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

Priorities USA Action and the congressional PACs confirmed the amounts of the donations on Thursday.

Soros gave $1 million earlier this year to the pro-Democratic super PAC American Bridge 21st Century. He's contributed millions of dollars during previous presidential elections.

Soros' contribution may signal that Democratic-leaning donors of elections past are starting to come around to super PACs. Those organizations can raise and spend unlimited sums of cash but can't coordinate with the candidates.

When Relationships Get Boring | Thought Catalog

When you?re romantically involved with a person and high levels of comfort develop, it?s easy to start coasting. This smooth-sailing manner consists of two lovers so cozy in their situation that they activate autopilot mode. There?s nothing wrong with relaxing, and in fact, feeling that secure with another person is what we all really want. But there?s a potential downside that often catches couples off guard.

They?re cruising down the road, gliding through life rather effortlessly when suddenly they hit a snag. The wheels on this luxury vehicle of content have a flat tire. And being that the pair wasn?t prepared for this type of setback, they may not have a car jack ? or even a spare tire for that matter. So when you think everything?s peachy, but it abruptly goes awry and you don?t have the tools to fix it, what do you do?

We can call friends (who serve as our AAA) and they might be able to guide us or provide the necessary assistance to get the wheels on the car going round-and-round again. And that?s all fine and dandy, but it?s important to know how to get out of a rut, or should I say, ?change a flat? for yourself ? alongside your significant other.

Often times the tire popping, sharp objects are visible on the road in front of us, but we?re too busy cruising to make an effort to dodge them. The important thing to remember is that they?re unique to every couple. You?ve got to combine yourself with your boyfriend/girlfriend, form one ? then take pride in the syndicated personality y?all are. It?s imperative that the two people be confident in their own skin, because the things that are considered obstacles for blah blah and so-and-so aren?t necessarily an issue for everyone else.

For example, when two people begin wearing their weekend sweats Monday thru Friday, watching a crazy amount of Netflix, and ordering in for dinner, many consider them dull. Opinionated outsiders believe that these homebody tendencies lead to a monotonous relationship ? and sometimes they might. Now to me personally, that sounds uh-mazing. If you don?t enjoy comfortable pants, Chinese food, pizza, movies or TV show marathons, there might be something wrong with you. As appealing as it may sound, the fact of the matter is that it can grow tedious to some, which then leads down a troublesome road.

Of course there?s pairs who are the polar opposite. They enjoy being out and about. They?re the couple who spends their weekends dancing, taking shots, slamming beers and enjoying the bar/club scene. For some, being in love doesn?t mean no more partying ? it just means that they have a sidekick to rage with. Just like with a calmer couple, this can reach a point where those involved question how much is too much?

There might even be couples in between who have a well balanced diet of both indoor and outdoor festivities, and that?s great too. Ultimately, too much of anything can be unhealthy, but it?s not?the direct cause of ruts. These ruts rear their ugly head, not because two people are comfortable with each other. Not because a couple spends time doing what feels right or makes them happy. These ruts appear when two people allow their relaxation to turn from standing, to sitting, to dozing off, to a lengthy nap, then to a full-blown deep sleep.

When we give up completely because we?ve already won someone?s heart, we tend to forget that we could lose it. Obviously we can?t recreate the first few magical months that occur when you first start dating a person forever, because the whole comfort thing naturally won?t allow it. What we can do is make sure that both ends are having their needs met. Relationship maintenance is crucial. As long as two people are mindful of the other?s feelings, things are so much more likely to run smoothly.

Here?s the big picture: we can love being a social recluse or butterfly, that?s not necessarily what?s important. At the end of the day, the person you?re doing those things with is what matters. If you love your partner, does it matter if you?re lying on the couch in matching Cheeto-finger stained Snuggies or dancing the night away in a lively club? Absolutely not. Different strokes for different folks has never been truer than when it comes to couples and their preferences. Sure, it helps to keep things interesting and add a dash of spontaneity here or there, but excitement and pleasure come in many different forms to many different people. As long as you?re making someone feel as happy as you do, the sharp objects will turn to speed bumps, and the tires will grow more durable.?TC Mark

'Sons of Anarchy' actor suspected of killing woman

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? An actor whose character died a violent death on the TV drama "Sons of Anarchy" plunged to his death in a driveway after apparently killing his landlady and attacking neighbors near Hollywood, police said Thursday.

Johnny Lewis, who played Kip "Half-Sack" Epps in the FX show, is the only suspect in the death of 81-year-old Catherine Davis, according to Los Angeles police.

Authorities found them dead Wednesday morning after neighbors reported a woman screaming inside the home, Cmdr. Andrew Smith said.

Lewis' death ended in a turbulent nearly 10-month span during which he was repeatedly arrested and officials expressed concerns about his mental health and the danger he posed to others.

The home where Davis was found had been ransacked, glass was shattered and a dead cat was found.

Neighbors said a man had jumped a fence and assaulted a painter and homeowner next door.

The body of Lewis, 28, was found in the driveway. He could have jumped or fallen from the roof, garage or balcony, or tumbled down stairs from a patio area, Smith said.

Coroner's investigative division Lt. Fred Corral said an autopsy found Davis' cause of death was blunt head trauma and manual strangulation.

Lewis' autopsy results will have to wait for toxicology tests to be completed, said Corral.

The deaths came about four months after a probation official expressed grave concern about Lewis' mental health. The report was prepared in a case in which Lewis was accused of attempting to break into the home of a woman in Santa Monica, Calif., and it described him as a transient. That case came about six weeks after Lewis hit two men over the head with a bottle during a fight.

The probation official wrote of being "very concerned for the well-being of not only the community but that of the defendant."

The May 17 report goes on to state that "the defendant suffers from some form of chemical dependency, mental health issue and a lack of permanent housing. Given this, (Lewis) will continue to be a threat to any community he may reside."

Within days, Lewis was released to a treatment facility and he pleaded no contest to attempting to break into the home in mid-August.

He was placed on three years of supervised probation, sentenced to time-served in jail and no follow-up hearing was scheduled, court records show.

Lewis' attorney Jonathan Mandel said the actor had serious mental issues that seemed to surface fairly recently. He said Lewis' parents and others had tried desperately to help him.

"Johnny Lewis had a lot of problems, a lot of mental problems," Mandel said by phone Thursday. "I recommended treatment for him but he declined it."

He continued, saying: "I give a lot of credit to his parents. They were really strong in trying to help him out. They really went to bat for him, but I guess they just couldn't do enough."

Lewis was released from Los Angeles County Jail a week ago, according to court records.

He had pleaded no contest to assault with a deadly weapon and attempted burglary in separate cases, according to the records.

"Obviously defendant's behavior is out of control and needs counseling afforded by a professional," another probation officer wrote in a report filed in Lewis' assault case.

Both probation reports state Lewis said he was earning about $20,000 a year as an actor in recent years, and he had been living with his parents when he was first arrested in January. In both cases, he was ordered to stay away from drugs.

Lewis' career spanned more than a decade, mainly in small roles. He played Ricky in the 2007 movie "AVPR: Aliens vs Predator ? Requiem" and was Dennis "Chili" Childress for two seasons on TV's "The O.C." He also appeared in episodes of such popular television shows as "Boston Public," ''Judging Amy," ''Malcolm in the Middle" and "Drake & Josh."

He was on "Sons of Anarchy" in 2008 and 2009 before his character was killed off.

Kurt Sutter, the show's creator and executive producer, tweeted news of Lewis' death Thursday:

"It was a tragic end for an extremely talented guy, who unfortunately had lost his way," Sutter wrote. "I wish I could say that I was shocked by the events last night, but I was not. I am deeply sorry that an innocent life had to be thrown into his destructive path."

Make Certain You Follow These Tips To Help You Find The Best ...

In the past it has been very hard for anyone which has a trouble with their own credit history to obtain a loan for an additional vehicle. However the market has evolved plus you will find lots of lenders who are ready to assist you with this.

Typically, credit unions and banks avoid offering motor finance loans to individuals who have bad credit and even though they may consider an application for an individual with poor credit, they might charge an extremely high interest rate. In addition to this, they may demand a lot of documentation and also this could make a borrower?s task much more difficult. Consequently, if you?ve bad credit but you want to buy a car, you need to search for lenders who provide poor credit car finance at competitive interest rates.

These lenders generally come together having car dealerships but some will deal with customers immediately. The first thing that you should do when searching for a car finance bad credit option is to decide if you will finance a brand new or even pre-owned vehicle. Remember that obtaining a loan for a brand new vehicle if you?ve bad credit is not always the best choice. It is much better to select a dependable pre-owned vehicle, that is more affordable and you can finish repaying it in shorter period. Additionally you enhance your chances of qualifying for a bad credit car loan if you decide to finance a pre-owned vehicle. If you don?t want to finance a used car, you should choose a low cost design. Keep in mind that you can always have the car you love the next time.

After determining the car to invest in, you need to think of a down payment. The greater the down payment is, the better because it will help you reduce the interest rate you have to pay. If your credit history really is bad, it is advisable to put down at the very least ten to fifteen percent of the car?s rate. You may come up with this type of down payment by saving for a few months before you apply for that auto loan.

The next phase that you need to take is to look around so that you could be able to choose the best bad credit car finance option. It?s always best to get at the very least 5 different quotes before settling on a particular lender. Remember that there are other car financing options apart from car dealerships plus they may provide you better offers. For instance, you could have your own bank finance a car that is being sold by its owner if you could come up with a large down payment.

Another important suggestion to remember while you apply for car financing if you?ve bad credit is that you should only supply the lender with accurate information. Don?t exaggerate your income because this could lead to issues later on if you?re not able to afford the agreed monthly payments. You must also ensure that you carefully see the motor finance arrangement and request clarifications regarding anything you don?t understand.

You must also remember that bad credit car loans are equal to taking personal loans offered by financial institutions. You should therefore comply with the requirements of making monthly payments till you pay off the entire loan balance. Making payments for your car loan as required can help you build your credit and will permit you to qualify for other loans in the future. Ideally, these guidelines on bad credit car finance can help you get a reliable vehicle and rebuild your credit.

A lot of people have been affected by the current recession and also have ended up with a poor credit history which a couple of years ago could have prevented them obtaining virtually any loans. But now you can get car financing with bad credit and you can study more about it if you click the link.

Fecal incontinence is highly underreported

ScienceDaily (Sep. 26, 2012) ? Fecal incontinence, or the inability to control the bowels, is a highly underreported and stigmatized condition, according to colorectal surgeons at Loyola University Health System (LUHS).

"This is a debilitating condition, which drastically affects a person's quality of life," said Dana Hayden, MD, MPH, colorectal surgeon, LUHS. "People with fecal incontinence avoid leaving the house to prevent an embarrassing accident from happening in public."

Fecal incontinence is more common in older adults, and although it affects women more commonly, men can also suffer from this disorder. This condition can be caused by a variety of factors, including damage to the pelvic nerves or muscles from trauma such as childbirth, and anal or rectal surgery; diseases like diabetes; or complications from radiation. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) estimates that more than 18 million Americans have fecal incontinence, yet Loyola doctors believe it is much higher.

"Fecal incontinence isn't something that people talk about, yet we know from our practice that it is extremely common," said Dr. Hayden, who also is an assistant professor in the Division of Colorectal Surgery at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. "The good news is there are options to manage this condition."

Loyola now offers a new procedure for patients with fecal incontinence called sacral nerve stimulation. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently approved this minimally invasive therapy for the treatment of chronic fecal incontinence in patients who have failed or are not candidates for more conservative treatments. This procedure also has been used for years at Loyola in patients with urinary urge incontinence.

The technology uses an implantable apparatus, consisting of a thin wire and a neurostimulator, or pacemakerlike device, to stimulate the nerves that control bowel function. This technology uses an external neurostimulator during a trial assessment period. If the device is effective, physicians implant a device that can be used indefinitely. This procedure is done in an outpatient setting under mild sedation. Patients return home the same day with minimal discomfort.

"Studies have shown that sacral nerve stimulation reduces incontinent episodes and increases quality of life in a majority of patients with chronic fecal incontinence," Dr. Hayden said. "These are dramatic, long-term results for patients who are dealing with chronic bowel control issues."

Ease Into 5K Is a Powerful Running Coach in Your Pocket

Most of the fitness apps out there for iOS have three basic functions: They track your performance, integrate with your playlists to give you some music to listen to, and offer the ability to share what you've done on Facebook or Twitter. Ease Into 5K adds another layer to that formula: a ready-made training plan that builds from a relatively easy workout up to the target distance of 5 kilometers, or roughly 3 miles.

Romney: Benghazi a 'terrorist attack'

(AP) ? Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney says the attack on the American consulate in Libya was an act of terrorism and says the United States must use foreign aid to bring about lasting change in such places.

In a speech Tuesday, Romney said foreign aid cannot sustain a developing country on a permanent basis and that U.S. policies should promote work, not reliance. The former Massachusetts governor also says aid should give people dignity and change attitudes toward the West.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and President Barack Obama's top spokesman each have said the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi was a terrorist attack. Obama himself has not used that language.

Romney spoke in New York at an annual global development conference sponsored by former President Bill Clinton.

Ahmadinejad nears last U.N. speech: expect a doozy

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad takes his final bow at the United Nations this week, and he?s likely to go out more like a lion than a lamb.

The global provocateur may be winding up his second and final term as president in dispute with Iran?s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and held in low esteem by the Iranian public as Iran?s economy falters under tough international sanctions.

But if his first comments after landing in New York for this week?s UN General Assembly are any indication, Mr. Ahmadinejad can be expected to outrage again when he speaks Wednesday from the UN podium.

RECOMMENDED: 7 most controversial UN speeches, from Ahmadinejad to Khrushchev

Speaking to reporters Monday, Ahmadinejad dismissed Israel as having ?no roots in [Middle Eastern] history? and ridiculed Israel?s threats to launch air strikes against Iran?s nuclear facilities. ?We do not take seriously the threats of the Zionists,? he said. ?We have all the defensive means at our disposal, and we are ready to defend ourselves.?

Prospects for surprise Israeli military action against Iran have roiled US-Israel relations in recent weeks, with President Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu openly disputing whether it?s time for military action. Some foreign policy experts predict Israel will reluctantly wait until after US elections for clearer support from the US. In the meantime, they say, Ahmadinejad is using the threat of attack to trot out his trademark bravado while trying to boost his standing at home.

On the international stage, Ahmadinejad continues to present himself as the defender of a new world order that would give emerging powers ? and in particular Muslim counties ? their due. Earlier this month, he hosted a summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Tehran.

On Monday, the Iranian president addressed a high-level UN meeting on the rule of law ? an appearance that drew howls of protest from human-rights advocates. Human rights in Iran have deteriorated further since the regime violently put down the country?s ?green revolution? in 2009, rights promoters say. They also cite the plight of religious minorities, homosexuals, and dissidents in Iran.

Ahmadinejad used his time at the UN meeting to sound a moderate note, insisting that Iran?s nuclear program is for peaceful, civilian purposes. He also said that time has not run out on diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis ? leaving him sounding a bit like Mr. Obama, who insists that the diplomatic window, while narrowing, has not yet closed.

As usual, Ahmadinejad's visit to the US is causing a stir. The US group United Against Nuclear Iran every year tries to ?shame" New York hotels into slamming their doors in the Iranian leader?s face ? and is as busy as ever mounting anti-Ahmadinejad protests this year, too.

In a bit of a if-you-can?t-beat-'em-join-?em move, UANI has set up its command post in the Warwick Hotel ? after failing to convince the West 54th Street establishment to deny the Iranian a room. It planned to hold an anti-Ahmadinejad rally outside the hotel Monday afternoon, joining a list of organizations that plan to hold similar events ? including outside the UN on Wednesday, when Ahmadinejad speaks.

PFT: Reid says 'Vick is our quarterback. Period.'

What a Monday night. What a controversial ending.

On the final play of a back-and-forth Monday Night Football game, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson chucked a Hail Mary into the end zone, where Seahawks receiver Golden Tate and Packers defensive back M.D. Jennings both leapt into the air and grabbed for it, then tumbled on the ground together, both with their hands on the ball. The officials ruled that it was simultaneous possession, which goes to the offense. Therefore, according to the officials, it was a Seahawks game-winning touchdown with no time left.

But should it have been a touchdown? Or should it have been an interception? Jennings appeared to have a firm grasp on the ball, while Tate just had an arm on the ball ? which would make it a Packers interception, and a Packers win. But the officials standing in the end zone said Tate had the ball, too, and the referee confirmed that call after a replay review. Touchdown, Seattle, on the final play of the game.

But was it the final play of the game? Or would the Seahawks have to try an extra point after that touchdown? Both teams and the officials left the field after the touchdown, and it appeared that the final score would be Seahawks 13, Packers 12. But after a long delay the officials finally told both teams that they had to come back on the field for the Seahawks to attempt an extra point. Seattle made it, and the final was 14-12.

Under the crazy circumstances of the final play it seemed like a lucky win for the Seahawks, but Wilson said after the game that there was nothing lucky about Tate?s catch.

?We practice that all the time and Golden Tate made a play,? Wilson said after the game.

The Seahawks had controlled the first half, sacking Aaron Rodgers eight times and forcing the Packers to punt on all five of their first-half possessions, but Green Bay took control in the second half. The Packers started the second half with a 13-play, 70-yard drive that resulted in a field goal, then had an 11-play, 66-yard drive that resulted in another field goal, then had a 16-play, 81-yard drive that resulted in the go-ahead touchdown. Rodgers was in complete control, and the offensive line was keeping him upright and opening holes for Cedric Benson.

But the Seahawks got the ball with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter, trailing 12-7, and they still had a prayer. That?s all they needed. Wilson got Seattle close enough for that one final play, and he made the throw Seattle needed him to make on that one final play.

Even if you think the officials got the final play right (and Packers fans will insist that they didn?t, and Jennings intercepted the pass, not to mention the fact that Tate appeared to push off before jumping up for the ball), the replacement officials were every bit as bad as we?ve all come to expect. An absolutely horrible pass interference call on Packers cornerback Sam Shields late in the fourth quarter sticks out as the worst mistake in a game full of them. This was a crazy game ? a crazy amount of pressure on Rodgers in the first half, a crazy Green Bay comeback in the second half, a crazy Hail Mary on the last play, and crazy officiating. Let?s all go to bed and talk more about this one in the morning.
