It looks like Volkswagen is planning to turn its Geneva show stand into a Golf course. Already on the guest list are the e-Golf, GTD, GTI and plug-in hybrid versions of the Mk7 Golf; the Variant is the next variant to join the flight.
The?Volkswagen Golf Variant is essentially the estate-bodied Golf. Engines range from the 85 hp 1.2 TSI to the 150 hp 2.0 TDI, and it wouldn?t be unreasonable to expect 4MOTION and plug-in hybrid spin-offs (what about a GTI Variant?) in the near future. The one you see here is the BlueMotion TSI version.
In all the commotion, we missed telling you about the Golf plug-in hybrid ? it will borrow the Audi A3 e-tron concept?s powertrain, which sees a 150 hp 1.4 TFSI collaborating with a 75 kW electric motor to give?204 hp and 350 Nm of torque.
Just like the Audi, the?plug-in hybrid hits 100 km/h from rest in 7.6 seconds and maxes out at 222 km/h. Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are a claimed 1.5 litres per 100 km and 35 grams per km respectively, and has a range of 50 km and a top speed of 130 km/h in EV mode.
