Bus accident kills 17 in southeastern Bangladesh (AP)

DHAKA, Bangladesh ? A bus has fallen into a deep gorge in a hilly area of southeastern Bangladesh, killing at least 17 people.

Local government administrator Mizanur Rahman says the Saturday morning accident occurred amid poor visibility caused by dense fog in Bandarban district, about 155 miles (250 kilometers) southeast of the capital, Dhaka.

He says rescuers recovered 13 bodies from the scene, while four people died at a hospital.

The bus was carrying more than 40 passengers. The gorge it fell into was about 500 feet (150 meters) deep. Rahman says at least 25 people were rescued and taken to a hospital with injuries.

Local police chief Neyamatul Karim says some Bangladeshi tourists are among the dead.
