More trouble for water polo coach

EXETER TWP., Pa. -

More sex charges have been filed against a former Berks County teacher and coach. Officials said another woman has come forward to say she had a sexual relationship with her swim coach when she was a 15-year-old sophomore.

At the beginning of this month Jonathan Bell, 31, was facing charges of having sex with a 17-year-old student about a dozen times.

Thursday the state attorney general announced there is another victim.

Bell is a suspended art teacher in the Exeter School District and is a former water polo and swim coach in the Mifflin School District.

"I knew Coach Bell fairly well I worked along with him on different fundraisers," said Hamid Chaudhry, "He has been a part of quite a few car washes for the Mifflin water polo team."

Hamid Chaudhry is the owner of the Dairy Queen. He calls it the watercooler of the Mifflin school district. And he said for the last week people have been talking about the sex charges against Coach Bell.

"The whole community is shocked," said Chaudhry, "A lot of people who went to school with him, his teachers, and they know Coach Bell very well. He was a respected gentleman in the community."

On August 7th, Bell was charged with having inappropriate sexual contact with a 17-year old female student. And now the state attorney general said a woman who is in her 20s said she had a sexual relationship with Bell in October 2003 when she was a sophomore at Governor Mifflin High School. She said Bell was her water polo and swim coach.

"This is a pattern and younger, I think we have some serious issues on hand," said Chaudhry.

According to court documents, the victim said she turned to Bell when she was upset. She said he drove her to his parents' house. They started playing card games and he suggested strip poker, which eventually led to sex.

Chaudhry said the community wants to move on.

"And if there's anything more that needs to come out, it better come out right now," said Chaudhry.

The attorney general stressed this is an ongoing investigation and said if anyone has more information to contact Berks County Detectives.
